The cost of constructing a well depends on its width, depth, location, type of casing used and drilling method.
 An important factor to consider when installing a new well is it's location. You will want to put the well close to where you will use it, keeping in mind the state of Minnesota requires that all wells be a minimum of 50 feet from any part of the buried sewer system.
The permit fee for a new well is presently set by the state at $215.
There are four steps in drilling a well. Obviously drilling the hole comes first, followed by installing the casing. The stainless steel screen goes in next. The well is then developed to clean the borehole and casing of drilling fluid by surging water or air in and out of the well screen openings. Chlorine is then added to disinfect the well and it is sealed with a watertight cap until the pump is installed. The MN Dept. of Health requires a proper surface seal of bentonite or concrete grout of the annulus surrounding the casing to prevent contaminants from entering the well.
